GO GUIDE

A sleepy seaside hamlet no more, Comporta has long been a chic retreat for Lisbon locals (it’s just over a one-hour drive from the city), but it’s now one of Europe’s most up-and-coming beach destinations. Days here are spent at rustic-chic beach clubs, surfing, bike riding through inland rice paddies, browsing the fantastic boutiques in the tiny, charming Comporta town, and enjoying this slice of authentic Portuguese paradise before the crowds inevitably arrive. There are a few fabulous hotels here (more being built), but this is also a great destination to rent a villa.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Comporta and home to O Dinis restaurant (authentic, casual) and Sublime Beach Club (chic, stylish). You can also book surfing lessons here through Surf in Comporta.

The main restaurant at Sublime Comporta is this elegant eatery, a must for dinner. It serves some of the most elevated cuisine in the region—think grilled cabbage with a slow-cooked egg, nori and cornbread, and poached octopus in with Aljezur baked potato and coriander aioli sauce.
