Copenhagen is one of Europe's most enjoyable cities, with a relaxed way of life, incredible food scene, and a beautiful location on islands in Denmark. No visit here is complete without taking a canal cruise or renting a bike and cruising along the streets as the locals do. You can visit Copenhagen year-round, but know that the winter has very little daylight (although the beautiful holiday decorations and markets make it a fun, cozy time to visit).
This beloved café in central Copenhagen is a perfect lunch or snack stop while shopping in the area. The tiny, counter-order café is always jam-packed with stylish locals enjoying breakfast and lunch, so it can be hard to find a seat at times. The rye bread plate—served with comté cheese and a soft-boiled egg—is a favorite. They make fresh pastries every day and they are also worth trying.
Owned by the team behind the top-rated 108 and Noma restaurants and located in the space that used to house Noma, Barr offers a slightly more casual but equally memorable dining experience. The food is upscale but not too fussy and the ambiance is spectacular—it's a perfect date night spot or dinner when you want local food but are sick of tasting menus (although you can opt for a four-course menu here).
Alums from San Francisco's top bakery, Tartine, and Copenhagen's top restaurant, Noma, teamed up on Hart, a bustling bakery in the Frederiksberg neighborhood with just a few tables. The baked goods and breads are unbelievable—the cardamom bun, which looks like croissant monkey bread, is the top-seller—and they serve an amazing kimchi grilled cheese at lunch.
