Almost unbelievable in its beauty, the supremely romantic Venice is comprised of more than 100 islands and palace-lined canals that never cease to amaze (particularly during the Biennale art show). Note that private water taxis are very expensive, but the vaporetto (public water bus) is cheap and easy to use.
Art lovers must visit Venice during this months-long event, which takes place every other year. The city itself turns into a museum, with modern art installations lining the canals and incredible pavilions throughout the islands. The city can be very crowded during the Biennale, so splurge on a guide to help you navigate the crowds, best shows, and events. For those without a guide, the two main venues are the Arsenale and the Giardini.
This island is known for its colorful homes that line the canals and are very photogenic. Come to walk around, take photos, and have lunch at Il Gatto Nero or Da Romano.
One of the most spectacular settings for a waterfront meal (come at sunset for a drink before dining). At the Belmond hotel on Giudecca, Cip’s Club is a splurge-worthy classic.
