The best and most famous vintage bookstore in Venice and in the world. It almost feels like a museum; all of the books are piled into containers that can float (including a gondola), so they will be protected in case of flooding. It’s a bit of a tourist spot, but if you go first thing in the morning you can browse peacefully.
The Aqua Alta bookstore is a bit of a tourist magnet. Of the hundred of so people who were in the store on a Sunday pm when I was there, a good 90% were siphoned out a side door without purchasing anything once they’d done their selfies against a wall of flood damaged books in a tiny side alley. This is essentially Venices problem. It can’t bear to be ignored but most of the people who come gawp west out the carpet and leave without contributing to the economy. Still the books are cheap and the stock huge. Best come here first thing in the morning if you want elbows free to browse.
