Beyond Seoul: Why Busan is the Korean City to Know Now

A break from bustling Seoul, Busan is a coastal city with plenty of charm, independent creative shops, concept cafés, and a slower pace overall. Bigger than you might expect, it takes a little planning to get around. From contemporary craft to seaside views, here are ten places that capture what I loved most about Busan—and why you should add it to your next South Korea itinerary.

Saie Bake

Maybe the most delicious scone I’ve ever had. An unassuming little café serving delicious buns and butter biscuits, too.

Ecrue

A lovely craft shop tucked into the same building as Apartmentfull, a beautiful place to stay in Busan. Look for Ecke on Korea’s navigation app (Naver Map), and take the opportunity to explore the other shops in the building.

비비비당

Bibibidang

A beautiful place to stop for tea and take in the view. Bibibidang offers a quieter moment away from the city’s busier streets, with a lovely temple just around the corner.

Gwangalli Beach

One of my favorite places in Busan to swim, breathe, and people-watch. Grab some bites to go, spend time on the sand, and enjoy the contrast between the open sea and Busan’s skyline.

My favorite café discovery in Busan. The atmosphere is incredibly soothing, with people reading books or sketching in their notebooks.

Bosu Book Street

A great stroll for anyone interested in vintage books and printed matter. Visit the second-hand bookshops and experience a different side of Busan through its older streets.

Piece of Antibes

This stay felt like a home away from home in Busan. From the simple yet thoughtful interiors to breakfast and the coffee shop downstairs, everything felt intentional.

HELMET

My go-to spot for breakfast, coffee, and a little people-watching. The lush courtyard gets beautiful sunlight, making it a lovely place to start the day.

Thrill on the Mug!

Worth a visit for its particularly special view, large windows, and outdoor seating. After a long walk through an area that feels like Italy or Greece, with colorful houses by the sea and plenty of coffee shops, this is a good spot to pause.

Ochoryang

Ochoryang

A must-visit gallery showcasing a thoughtful selection of works by local and Japanese artisans. After your visit, a tea basket arrives for you to enjoy while looking out over the garden.
